MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF MARCH 11, 2014

Call to Order: Chairman Jacob called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

Review of Minutes of 2/11/14: Motion to approve by Lisa Lacroix, seconded by Sara Shick. All in favor with East Coventry and East Pikeland abstaining.

Treasurer’s Report: No change since the previous meeting. Savings $8,056.35, Checking $666.88, Total $8,723.23. Motion to approve by Sara Shick, seconded by Stock Illoway. All in favor.

Discussion: Lisa Lacroix discussed the proposal for work on the Northern Federation web site to be done by Northlight Advertising. There has been a price increase since 2013 from $1,500 to $1,800 for the proposed work. This is still within our guidelines. Our current web site only contains the PROS Plan. Additionally, we would like to have a home page and tabs for meeting schedules and minutes, recent events, a section for the history of the Northern Federation and links to member township web sites. An “About Us” tab with officials and by-laws and a contact tab with a general email address are envisioned. It was agreed to post work from 2013 onwards. Member townships were requested to provide the links they want on the web site. A 50% deposit is required for initial work. Hosting has already been paid. Members were polled as to whether they were in agreement and authorized an expenditure in the amount of $900. Motion by Stock Illoway to approve the work as presented and pay a $900 deposit. Seconded by Sara Shick. All in favor. Treasurer was instructed to forward a $900 check to Northlight.

Turnpike Expansion: The Turnpike Commission is looking at expansion of the turnpike from Downingtown to the west. It is a three-year program scheduled for 2014 – 2016. Land trusts and EACs should remain in touch and involved.

Event Announcements: A full-day PALTA seminar was announced for Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Reading: “Holding the Line: Protecting Conserved Lands in the Path of Energy Transmission.”

An Irish Breakfast was announced at Joanna Furnace on Saturday, March 15 from 7 a.m.-12 noon.

On Saturday, March 15 at 9:30 a.m. a March for the Parks trail clearing will be held at Hopewell Furnace National Park.

Brochures were distributed for the Joanna Furnace Pot Pie and Soup event on Thursday, March 27. Orders to be placed by March 20.

 On April 5 from 10 – 2, West Vincent Township will hold their Sustainability Fair at the French Creek Elementary School.

On June 9 the French Creek Iron Tour bicycle event will be held.

On May 18 from 1 – 5 p.m. the Coventry Woods Festival will be held.

On September 27 the Warwick County Park Community Day and exhibits will be held at Warwick County Park.

Future Federation Meetings: At the May meeting of the Northern Federation, Stock Illoway and Rusty Strauss will present information on a William Penn Grant for the French Creek Watershed program.

Chairman Jacob is attempting to arrange a future presentation by Mike Frank on “The Economics of Open Space.”

Adjournment: There being no further business, a motion was made by Stock Illoway, seconded by Sara Shick, to adjourn at 7:34 p.m.
